Student Membership...
WVPA works hard to encourage involvement by students. Student volunteers help out at every conference, student membership is inexpensive, and students can attend workshops for reduced or even no fees! Our student research poster sessions are terrific opportunities for students to present research projects in a supportive, non-threatening environment.
Benefits of WVPA Membership
Keep up to date on standards of practice, ethics and research, build your knowledge base, and get the answers you need.
Get the latest information on a myriad of subjects at the three-day annual conference and through our one-day Spring Event. WVPA is an approved provider of APA Continuing Education. Members receive substantial discounts on registration fees. Learn about important licensing, legislative and regulatory changes through our WVPA Newsletter and via the WVPA web site.
Help your practice to grow by participation in the statewide WVPA Referral Service network. WVPA members have help when they need it with managed care or insurance concerns. Members also have access to discounted services such as health, group and liability insurance for themselves and their employees. We also provide a free listserv to our membership so that they can receive and give feedback on any psychology issue practice question or network. We also have a professional practice committee which also has a listserv dedicated to practice issues.
Be involved with the organization that is
“The voice of psychology” in West Virginia.
Through its various activities, WVPA helps shape the perception of psychology in the eyes of the public. WVPA is represented at the WV-DHHR Behavioral Health Advisory Council, WV Care Coalition and in the Mental Health Coalition of West Virginia. WVPA is also in a collaborative consortium known as the West Virginia Initiative to Improve End-of-Life Care.
Through our experienced and respected voice in Charleston, WVPA helps to shape the legislative agenda. Here are two of our successes: WVPA led the initiative to pass a serious mental illness mental health parity law in 2002; developed the legislation which phased out Provider Tax on psychologists in 2001. We continue efforts to address hospital privileges, monitor prompt payment statutes that exist but are seldom enforced and monitor managed care providers doing business in West Virginia.
WVPA members have a voice in the shaping of future psychologists. WVPA encourages student membership and has an APAGS student group. For further information on APAGS, student advocacy, and how you can become involved, contact WVPA at 304.345.5805 or by email at info@wvpsychology.org.
